I will never forget the day that I became a lawyer. It is still one of the proudest days of my life, for I have always believed that it is a profession that exists to help people and protect our American way of life in a way that no other profession can.

For nearly 40 years, I have practiced law throughout the State of North Carolina. In 2009, I was asked by my fellow members of the Bar to be the Clerk of Superior Court for Forsyth County. After two years of public service, I have reopened my practice.

Throughout my career, I have tried everything from jury verdict major criminal felony cases and personal injury cases to contract disputes and medical malpractice actions. One of my personal landmark cases that I tried and won, Williamson v. Liptzin, was featured on 60 Minutes and in Life Magazine’s “The Year in Pictures 1998.” I also have mediated cases regarding personal injury, wrongful death and property disputes in court and heard numerous cases as the Clerk of Superior Court for our county.

Without question or hesitation, I believe in the legal profession. I firmly believe that the right that we have as American citizens to take our disputes before a jury of our peers is what makes our country great.  Yet, we now have in place a way for people to resolve their differences without proceeding to a jury trial. This well-conceived and well-administered judicial process is known as mediation.

Mediation is the opportunity for the parties of a dispute to collaborate with their attorneys and attempt to resolve their issues before a trained, unbiased mediator. The process is so successful that the majority of cases in North Carolina end with settlement through mediation. And if the case cannot be settled, then the involved parties proceed to a full trial before a judge and jury.

I am a 40-year veteran of the legal trade. I understand how valuable our right to a fair judicial process is in this country and have extensive experience as a trial lawyer, mediator and judge. If I can be of assistance to you, your family or your friends, please feel free to contact me. I assure you that we can work together to resolve whatever issues you may have in the most constructive manner possible. And if you contact me regarding an area of law that I do not practice in, it will be my pleasure to refer you to another attorney in the area who can effectively meet your legal needs.
